MTE Solutions Polyimide Kapton Tape, ESD, 1Mil, 36 Yards
MTE Solutions ESD Anti-Static Polyimide Kapton Tape, 1 Mil Backing, Silicone Adhesive, Amber, 36 Yards — Variety of Widths
MTE Solutions ESD polyimide Kapton® tape combines the high-temperature performance of standard polyimide film with an anti-static treated backing — making it the correct choice for masking and insulation applications inside ESD Protected Areas (EPAs) where standard polyimide tape could generate or accumulate static charge. The 1 mil polyimide film with silicone adhesive provides the same thermal resistance (-100°F to 500°F), dielectric strength (6,500V), and clean removal as standard Kapton tape, while the ESD treatment prevents triboelectric charge generation during tape application and removal. Available in 5 widths from 1/4" to 1", 36 yards per roll. A direct alternative to 3M ESD Kapton tape and 3M anti-static polyimide film tape.
Sold individually by width (select size above). 36 yards/roll.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between ESD polyimide tape and standard polyimide tape?
Standard polyimide (Kapton®) tape has an insulative film backing that can generate and accumulate triboelectric static charge when applied, removed, or rubbed against surfaces — a significant concern in ESD Protected Areas where static generation can damage sensitive components. ESD anti-static polyimide tape has a treated backing that dissipates static charge, preventing charge buildup during tape handling and application. For any masking or insulation application inside an EPA or on ESD-sensitive assemblies, the ESD version is the correct choice. Standard polyimide tape is appropriate for non-ESD applications such as powder coating masking, motor winding insulation, and general high-temperature masking outside an EPA.
What applications require ESD polyimide tape specifically?
ESD polyimide tape is required when masking or insulating ESD-sensitive PCBs, components, or assemblies inside an EPA during soldering, conformal coating, or other processing. It is also used for bundling and securing wire harnesses in ESD-sensitive electronics assembly, and for any application where the tape will contact or be applied near ESD-sensitive devices and standard tape’s static generation would pose a risk.
Does this tape still provide the same high-temperature performance as standard Kapton tape?
Yes. The ESD treatment is applied to the polyimide film backing and does not affect the tape’s thermal performance. It maintains the same -100°F to 500°F operating range, 6,500V dielectric strength, silicone adhesive clean removal, and Mil-P-46112B / ASTM D 5213 compliance as standard polyimide tape.
Is this tape a direct replacement for 3M ESD Kapton tape?
Yes. MTE Solutions ESD polyimide tape is a direct functional alternative to 3M anti-static polyimide film tape, using the same anti-static treated polyimide film and silicone adhesive construction. It meets the same military and ASTM specifications and is RoHS/REACH compliant.
