MTE Solutions Polyimide Kapton Tape, 1 Mil Backing, Silicone Adhesive, Amber, 36 Yards — Variety of Widths

MTE Solutions polyimide Kapton® tape is made from DuPont™ Kapton® HN polyimide film with a silicone adhesive backing. The 1 mil film provides outstanding thermal resistance, excellent electrical insulation, and high dielectric strength — rated for continuous use from -100°F to 500°F (-73°C to 260°C). The silicone adhesive bonds securely during high-temperature processing and removes cleanly without adhesive residue. Used wherever toughness, puncture resistance, extreme heat resistance, and flame retardance are required: PCB masking during wave and reflow soldering, transformer and motor winding insulation, wire harness bundling, and high-temperature powder coating masking. A direct alternative to 3M Kapton tape and 3M Polyimide Film Tape. Available in 11 widths from 1/8" to 3", 36 yards per roll.

Sold individually by width (select size above). 36 yards/roll.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kapton tape used for?

Kapton® polyimide tape is used in any application requiring electrical insulation, high-temperature masking, or mechanical protection at temperatures that would destroy standard tapes. Common applications include: masking PCBs during wave soldering and reflow soldering, insulating transformer windings and motor coils, bundling and protecting wire harnesses, masking surfaces during powder coating and paint baking, and protecting components during conformal coating. The combination of high dielectric strength (6,500V), wide temperature range (-100°F to 500°F), and clean silicone adhesive removal makes it the standard tape for electronics manufacturing and high-temperature industrial applications.

What is the difference between 1 mil and 5 mil Kapton tape?

The 1 mil version (this product) is the standard thickness for most PCB masking, soldering, and electrical insulation applications — thin enough to conform to tight spaces and component profiles while providing full electrical insulation and heat resistance. The 5 mil version offers greater mechanical strength, puncture resistance, and durability for applications requiring a heavier-duty tape, such as wire harness protection, abrasion-resistant wrapping, or masking in rougher industrial environments. For most electronics and cleanroom applications, 1 mil is the correct choice.

Will the silicone adhesive leave residue after removal?

No. The silicone adhesive on MTE Solutions Kapton tape is formulated for clean removal after high-temperature processing. It bonds securely during soldering, powder coating, or other heat processes and releases cleanly without leaving adhesive residue on PCB surfaces, components, or metal parts.

Is this tape a direct replacement for 3M Kapton tape?

Yes. MTE Solutions polyimide Kapton tape uses the same DuPont™ Kapton® HN polyimide film and silicone adhesive construction as 3M Polyimide Film Tape 1205 and other 3M Kapton tape products. It meets Mil-P-46112B and ASTM D 5213 specifications and is RoHS/REACH compliant, making it a qualified direct alternative at a competitive price point.
