Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between lips-down and lips-up shelf configuration?
Lips-down means the shelf retention lips fold underneath, creating a completely flat, flush top surface — ideal for sliding trays, sheet pans, or flat loads on and off the cart. Lips-up (as on the XA236 service cart) retain items on the shelf during transport. Choose lips-down for transfer/loading applications and lips-up for transport where items need to stay in place.

How does the YM236 differ from the XA236 stainless cart?
The YM236 is a heavier-duty transfer cart (1,800 lb, 6" casters, lips-down) designed for moving heavy loads between workstations. The XA236 is a lighter service cart (1,200 lb, 5" casters, lips-up, tubular handle) designed for transport where items need to stay on the shelf. The YM236 also has a lower 31" top shelf height vs. 35" on the XA236.

What is the twin caster hole pattern?
The twin caster hole pattern on the stainless caster mounts allows multiple caster sizes to be bolted on without drilling new holes — making it easy to upgrade from U600 steel-rig casters to S600 stainless-rig casters, or switch to all-swivel (AS) configuration for tighter maneuvering.

When would I choose all-swivel casters (AS option)?
All-swivel casters allow the cart to move in any direction without turning, making it easier to maneuver in tight spaces like hospital corridors, kitchen prep areas, or between closely spaced workstations. Standard 2-rigid/2-swivel configuration tracks straighter for longer runs.
