Use the lowest effective temperature for the joint, clean routinely and keep the working surface coated with fresh solder. Turn the station off during extended periods of non-use.
- Cracking: Avoid striking the iron against the bench or applying excessive force. Inspect for damaged plating and replace damaged tips.
- Corrosion: Avoid unnecessary high temperature and prolonged idle heating. Re-tin after cleaning and before shutdown; never file the working tip surface.
