Berkshire CHNW50920, Choice 500 Nonwoven Wiper, 60% Cellulose / 40% Polyester, 9" x 9", Case of 8,000

The Berkshire Choice 500 is a thermally bonded nonwoven cleanroom wiper constructed from a 60% cellulose / 40% polyester blend — the higher cellulose content giving it excellent absorbency for a nonwoven wiper while the polyester component provides structural integrity and low lint performance. Unlike some nonwoven wipers that use chemical binders to hold fibers together, the Choice 500 is thermally bonded, meaning no binders are present to leach into sensitive processes or react with solvents and cleaning agents. This makes it broadly chemically compatible and appropriate for use with IPA, acetone, and most common cleanroom cleaning agents in ISO Class 5 through ISO Class 8 environments.

MTE Solutions stocks the CHNW50920 in cases of 8,000 sheets (200 wipes per pack, 40 packs per case). The 9" x 9" format is the standard workhorse size for cleanroom bench operations. The Choice 500 is the appropriate specification when absorbency is the primary requirement in an ISO Class 5–8 environment and a polyester knitted wiper is not required. For applications requiring lower lint and a slightly higher polyester content, see the Choice 600 (CHNW60920). For the 12" x 12" format, see the CHNW51220.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Choice 500 and the Choice 600?
The Choice 500 (CHNW50920) is 60% cellulose / 40% polyester — higher cellulose content gives it better absorbency. The Choice 600 (CHNW60920) is 55% cellulose / 45% polyester — higher polyester content gives it lower lint generation. Choose the 500 when absorbency is the primary requirement; choose the 600 when lower lint is more important than maximum absorbency.

What does “thermally bonded” mean and why does it matter?
Thermally bonded means the fibers are fused together using heat rather than chemical adhesives or binders. The absence of chemical binders means there are no extractable compounds that could leach into your process or react with solvents — making the Choice 500 broadly chemically compatible and appropriate for use with IPA, acetone, and most common cleanroom cleaning agents.

What ISO cleanroom class is the Choice 500 rated for?
The CHNW50920 is rated for ISO Class 5 through ISO Class 8 environments (equivalent to Federal Standard 209E Class 100 through Class 100,000).

How many wipes come in a case of CHNW50920?
Each case contains 8,000 wipes — 200 wipes per pack, 40 packs per case.

Can the Choice 500 be used with IPA or other solvents?
Yes. The thermally bonded construction with no chemical binders makes the Choice 500 broadly compatible with isopropyl alcohol (IPA), acetone, and most common cleanroom solvents. The cellulose component also provides good absorbency for water-based cleaning agents.

When should I choose a nonwoven wiper like the Choice 500 over a knitted polyester wiper?
Nonwoven wipers like the Choice 500 are typically lower cost per wipe and offer good absorbency due to their cellulose content. Knitted polyester wipers (like the Choice 700 or Choice 900) offer lower particle generation and are appropriate for higher-classification environments (ISO Class 3–5). Choose the Choice 500 for ISO Class 5–8 applications where cost efficiency and absorbency are the primary requirements.
