Techspray 2102-12S Fine-L-Kote SR — Silicone Conformal Coating | Standard Viscosity | 12 oz Aerosol, Case of 12

Techspray Fine-L-Kote SR (2102) is a professional silicone conformal coating engineered for electronics requiring protection across extreme temperature ranges, high-humidity environments, and applications subject to vibration and mechanical stress. Its rubbery, flexible nature provides excellent vibration resistance and thermal stability from -65°C to +200°C. SR meets IPC-CC-830B, passes the laboratory tests of MIL-I-46058C, and carries UL recognition under UL746E (file #E475454).

The 2102-12S is the standard viscosity (4–10 cps) aerosol format, sold as a case of 12 x 12 oz cans. Ideal for manual spray application in lower-volume or field environments. For high-viscosity selective coating or dipping applications, see the 2102-HV series.

  • Military and aerospace adjacent — MIL-I-46058C lab test compliance for non-QPL applications

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Fine-L-Kote SR standard viscosity (2102-12S) and high viscosity?

The standard viscosity (2102-12S, 4–10 cps) is optimized for aerosol spray application and provides thinner, more even coverage for manual and handheld spray methods. The high viscosity version (70–80 cps) is better suited for selective coating equipment and dipping processes where greater film build is needed. Both contain the same silicone chemistry and performance characteristics.

Is Fine-L-Kote SR MIL-SPEC qualified?

Fine-L-Kote SR passes the laboratory tests of MIL-I-46058C but is not listed on the Qualified Products List (QPL-46058). It is appropriate for commercial and industrial applications where MIL-I-46058C test compliance is required but QPL listing is not mandated.

Can silicone conformal coating be removed or reworked?

Silicone conformal coatings are among the most difficult to remove. Mechanical removal (scraping, micro-blasting) is the most reliable method. Chemical stripping with specialized silicone strippers is possible but slow. Design for rework should consider this — if frequent rework is anticipated, an acrylic or urethane coating may be preferable.

Why is silicone conformal coating not abrasion resistant?

The rubbery, flexible nature of silicone that makes it excellent for vibration resistance also makes it soft and susceptible to abrasion. For applications requiring abrasion resistance, consider epoxy or polyurethane conformal coatings instead.

What environments is Fine-L-Kote SR best suited for?

Fine-L-Kote SR excels in high-humidity environments, outdoor applications, and assemblies subject to extreme temperature cycling (-65°C to +200°C) or mechanical vibration. It is commonly used for outdoor signage electronics, automotive underhood assemblies, and industrial controls in thermally demanding locations.
