IDEAL APPLICATIONS
• Wave soldering (through-hole PCB assembly)
• Fountain soldering systems
• Dip soldering operations
• Electronics manufacturing (consumer, industrial, automotive)
• Repair and rework of leaded assemblies
• Military and aerospace electronics (where leaded solder is required)
• Medical device manufacturing (non-implantable)
WHY 63/37 EUTECTIC SOLDER?
Sn63Pb37 is the most widely used tin-lead solder alloy for through-hole assembly because it is eutectic - meaning it transitions directly from solid to liquid at a single temperature (183°C) with no plastic phase. This provides:
• Faster solidification for higher production speeds
• Reduced thermal stress on components
• Bright, shiny solder joints (quality indicator)
• Excellent mechanical strength and reliability
WAVE SOLDERING PROCESS
Bar solder is loaded into wave solder pots where it is melted and maintained at the proper temperature. PCBs with through-hole components pass over the molten solder wave, creating solder joints as the solder wets the component leads and PCB pads. The 63/37 alloy's eutectic properties ensure consistent, high-quality joints at production speeds.
PACKAGING & HANDLING
Each 25 lb box contains 15 trapezoidal bars. The trapezoidal shape is designed for easy loading into wave solder pots and efficient melting. Store in a cool, dry location to prevent oxidation.
LEADED SOLDER EXEMPTIONS
While RoHS restricts lead in many electronics, leaded solder remains permitted for:
• High-reliability applications (military, aerospace, medical)
• Repair and maintenance of existing leaded assemblies
• Applications where lead-free alternatives are not suitable
• Products exempt from RoHS regulations
INDIUM CORPORATION QUALITY
Indium Corporation manufactures bar solder using only conflict-free Grade A tin and maintains strict quality controls to ensure very low oxide content. All alloys meet or exceed ASTM B32, IPC J-STD-006, and JIS Z 3282 specifications, as well as customer-specific requirements.
