Hakko T18-BL — Long Conical Solder Tip, 0.20mm

The Hakko T18-BL is a 0.20mm long conical solder tip for the Hakko FX-888D, FX-888, and legacy 900M/936/937 series soldering stations. The BL designation combines an ultra-fine 0.20mm conical point with an extended shank length, delivering both maximum access precision and extended reach into deep, recessed, or obstructed board locations. It is the most specialized tip in the T18 conical lineup, designed for micro rework on ultra-fine-pitch components, SMD touch-up in densely populated areas, and precision work where neither a standard conical length nor a 0.50mm point is sufficient.

Soldering Tip Care Guide

  • Tin before and after every use — ultra-fine tips oxidize extremely rapidly; never leave the point bare at temperature even briefly.
  • Use brass wire tip cleaner with extreme care — use very gentle strokes in brass wool (Hakko 599B-02) to avoid bending or deforming the 0.20mm point. Never use a wet sponge on ultra-fine tips.
  • Re-tin immediately after every cleaning stroke — oxidation begins within seconds on a 0.20mm point exposed at operating temperature.
  • Use tip tinner/activator at the first sign of dewetting — do not allow oxidation to progress on a fine tip; apply tip tinner immediately if the point loses wettability.
  • Keep temperature at the lowest effective setpoint — ultra-fine tips degrade significantly faster at high idle temperatures.
  • Replace at the first sign of deformation, pitting, or persistent dewetting — a 0.20mm tip that is bent or oxidized is no longer usable for precision work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the T18-BL, T18-B, and T18-I?

The T18-B is a standard-length conical tip at 0.50mm — the most versatile conical for general precision rework. The T18-I is an ultra-fine conical at 0.20mm in standard length — finer point than the B but without the extended reach. The T18-BL combines the 0.20mm ultra-fine point of the I with an extended shank for additional reach. Choose the BL when you need both the finest point and maximum reach into recessed or obstructed areas; choose the I when fine point is needed but reach is not a constraint.

What stations is the Hakko T18-BL compatible with?

The T18-BL is compatible with the Hakko FX-888D, FX-888, 936, 936-ESD, 937, 928, 913, 907, 907-ESD, 900M, 900M-ESD, and 703 soldering stations and irons. It is not compatible with the FX-951 (T15 series) or FX-971/FX-972 (T39 series).

How do T18 tips differ from T15 and T39 series tips?

T18 tips are designed for the FX-888D/FX-888 and legacy 900M/936 series stations. T15 tips are for the now-discontinued FX-951 station. T39 tips are for the current FX-971 and FX-972 stations. The three series are not interchangeable — always match the tip series to your specific station model.
