Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the CEF3 knee-length design better than a standard lab coat for cleanroom use?
The knee-length design protects a significantly larger body surface area than a standard hip-length lab coat, reducing the amount of skin and clothing exposed to the cleanroom environment. Combined with the knit collar (vs. open lapels) and six-snap front closure, the CEF3 provides a tighter contamination barrier — critical since people are the primary source of particulate contamination in cleanrooms.

What does the thumb loop do and why does it matter?
The thumb loop on the knit cuff keeps the sleeve pulled down over the wrist when gloves are donned, preventing exposed skin between the glove cuff and frock sleeve. This eliminates a common contamination pathway on production floors and is especially important in ISO Class 6 and stricter environments where skin particle shedding must be minimized.

Is the CEF3 antistatic or ESD rated?
The CEF3 is antistatic treated, meaning it reduces static charge buildup on the garment surface. It is not a full ESD garment with a defined resistance path to ground — for applications requiring ANSI/ESD S20.20 compliance, a dedicated ESD garment system (such as the Transforming Technologies TX4000 series) is required. The antistatic treatment is suitable for general cleanroom use where static control is a secondary concern.

What is SMS fabric and how does it compare to polyester cleanroom garments?
SMS (spunbond-meltblown-spunbond) is a three-layer nonwoven fabric that combines the strength of spunbond layers with the filtration efficiency of a meltblown core. It is highly breathable, fluid resistant, and low-linting — making it an excellent particulate barrier for disposable cleanroom frocks. Unlike reusable polyester garments, SMS frocks are single-use, eliminating laundering validation requirements and reducing cross-contamination risk between uses.
