SCS 10023, ESD Bag Open End Metal In 2 in X 3 in 100 Pack
SCS 10023 — ESD Metal-In Static Shielding Bag | Open End | 2" × 3" | 100 Pack
The SCS 10023 is a 2" × 3" open-end metal-in static shielding bag, sold in a 100-pack. Part of SCS’s 1000 Series, these transparent bags are manufactured from a polyester/metal/polyethylene laminate that provides electrostatic discharge shielding for ESD-sensitive electronic components and assemblies. The dissipative inner and outer surfaces allow charges to drain when the bag is placed on a grounded surface or handled by a grounded operator. Bags are printed with the ESD protective symbol and a lot code for traceability and ANSI/ESD S541 compliance.

Key Features
- Metal-in laminate construction — polyester/metal/polyethylene laminate provides electrostatic field and ESD discharge shielding; protects contents from external static events
- <10 nJ discharge shielding — meets ANSI/ESD STM11.31 energy limit; qualifies for use inside and outside the EPA per ANSI/ESD S541
- Dissipative inner and outer surfaces — surface resistivity 10⁴ to <10¹¹ Ω/sq; charges drain safely when bag contacts a grounded surface or grounded operator
- Open end / heat sealable — 1000 Series open-top style; compatible with standard impulse and hot-bar heat sealers for secure closure after loading
- Printed ESD symbol + lot code — meets ANSI/ESD S541 marking requirements; supports traceability in ESD control programs
- RoHS 2, REACH & Conflict Minerals compliant — suitable for use in regulated manufacturing environments
- Made in USA — manufactured in Sanford, NC; stocked for fast delivery
Industries & Applications
- Electronics manufacturing — storage and transport of ESD-sensitive PCBs, ICs, connectors, and discrete components
- Semiconductor packaging — bagging of bare die, wafers, and sensitive devices during handling and shipment
- Contract electronics manufacturing (EMS) — component kitting and WIP storage in ANSI/ESD S20.20 programs
- MRO and repair depots — ESD-safe storage of spare parts and replacement components
- Medical device manufacturing — ESD and contamination protection for electronic subassemblies
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between metal-in and metal-out ESD shielding bags?
Metal-in bags (like the SCS 10023) have the conductive metal layer on the inside of the laminate, beneath the polyester outer layer. This protects the metal layer from abrasion and makes the exterior surface static dissipative. Metal-out bags have the metal layer on the outside, providing slightly higher shielding performance but are more susceptible to puncture and abrasion damage to the metal layer. For most standard ESD component storage applications, metal-in bags are the preferred and more durable choice.
Can the SCS 10023 be heat sealed?
Yes — the 1000 Series open-end bags are heat sealable using standard impulse or hot-bar heat sealers. This allows the bag to be closed securely after loading, providing a fully sealed ESD shielding enclosure for transport and long-term storage.
Is the SCS 10023 compliant with ANSI/ESD S20.20?
Yes — the SCS 10023 meets the packaging requirements of ANSI/ESD S20.20 and ANSI/ESD S541. The <10 nJ discharge shielding performance per STM11.31 and the Level 3 classification per ANSI/ESD S11.4 qualify it for use both inside and outside the ESD Protected Area (EPA).
What other sizes are available in the SCS 1000 Series?
SCS 1000 Series metal-in static shielding bags are available in a wide range of sizes from small component bags up to large board-level bags. MTE Solutions stocks multiple sizes — contact us for the full size matrix or volume pricing on larger quantities.
