Desco 12450 Statfree Conductive Foam High Density, 1/2" x 24" x 36"
Desco 12450 — Statfree Conductive Foam High Density, 1/2" × 24" × 36"
The Desco 12450 Statfree is a conductive high-density cross-linked polyethylene foam sheet for ESD-safe lead insertion packaging. The 1/2" thickness provides substantial insertion depth for longer-lead components, deep-body ICs, and multi-row connector pins while remaining thinner than the 3/4" sheet for applications where a full 3/4" depth is unnecessary. Component leads are inserted directly into the foam to hold them in position during storage, kitting, and transport. The conductive cross-linked construction brings all inserted leads to equipotential, eliminating potential differences between terminals that could cause electrostatic discharge. The foam is corrosion-resistant and will not affect the solderability of device leads over storage life. Low tribocharging formulation minimizes static generation during insertion and extraction. Lead-free RoHS compliant.
Note: This foam sheet weighs approximately 0.50 lb but ships at a dimensional weight of approximately 11 lb due to its size. Shipping costs are calculated on dimensional weight.

Key Features
- 1/2" Thickness — Deep Lead Insertion: Second thickest in the Statfree conductive foam line, suited for longer-lead components and multi-row connectors. For thinner options see the 1/4" (12250) or 3/8" (12350); for maximum depth see the 3/4" (12550).
- Conductive Lead Insertion Foam: Component leads inserted into the foam are brought to equipotential, preventing potential differences between terminals that could cause ESD damage during storage and transport.
- Cross-Linked High Density Construction: Uniform cell structure provides consistent insertion resistance and repeatable lead retention force without deforming leads.
- Corrosion Resistant — Will Not Affect Solderability: Non-corrosive to device leads during storage, preserving solderability for downstream assembly.
- Low Tribocharging (Antistatic): Minimizes static charge generation during lead insertion and extraction.
- 24" × 36" Sheet: Large format for custom cutting to tray inserts, component board liners, or standard packaging configurations.
- RoHS Compliant (Lead-Free).
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the 12450 thickness compare to other Desco Statfree conductive foam sheets?
The Statfree conductive foam line in the 24" × 36" format is available in four thicknesses: 1/4" (12250), 3/8" (12350), 1/2" (12450), and 3/4" (12550). The 12450 at 1/2" is the second thickest — provides substantial lead insertion depth for longer-lead and multi-row components without the full depth of the 3/4" sheet. A 1/4" × 24" × 35" option is also available as the Desco 12660.
Will the 12450 foam corrode or damage component leads during storage?
No. The Desco 12450 is specifically formulated to be corrosion-resistant and will not affect the solderability of device leads, even during extended storage periods.
Why does this foam ship at a higher weight than its actual weight?
The 12450 sheet is 24" × 36" × 1/2" — a large, low-density item. Carriers calculate shipping cost based on dimensional weight when it exceeds actual weight. This sheet ships at approximately 11 lb dimensional weight despite weighing approximately 0.50 lb, which is reflected in the shipping cost at checkout.
