MTE Solutions Polyimide Masking Dots/Discs, Mustard Color, 1.5 Mil Silicone Adhesive, 2,000 Discs/Roll

MTE Solutions polyimide masking dots are die-cut discs made from mustard-color polyimide film with a 1.5 mil silicone adhesive backing, designed for high-temperature masking applications up to 500°F (260°C). They are widely used for masking printed circuit boards (PCBs) during wave soldering, reflow soldering, and conformal coating, as well as for masking threaded holes, connectors, and precision surfaces during powder coating and paint operations. The silicone adhesive bonds securely during processing and releases cleanly without adhesive residue. This 2,000 disc/roll format offers smaller diameters (3/16" through 1/2") at a higher count per roll, ideal for high-volume PCB masking of small contacts, vias, and test points. A direct alternative to Hisco polyimide masking dots and Kapton tape masking discs.

Sold in rolls of 2,000 discs. Available in 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", and 1/2" diameters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 2,000/roll and 1,000/roll polyimide dot products?

The 2,000/roll format offers smaller diameter sizes (3/16" through 1/2") at a higher count per roll, making it the better choice for high-volume PCB masking of small contacts, vias, test points, and connectors. The 1,000/roll format covers larger diameters (5/8" and 3/4") suited for masking larger features, holes, and connectors. Choose based on the diameter you need for your specific masking application.

What are polyimide masking dots used for?

Polyimide masking dots protect specific areas of a PCB or metal part during high-temperature processing. On PCBs, they mask gold contacts, connectors, test points, and component areas that must not be exposed to solder, flux, or conformal coating. In powder coating and paint operations, they mask threaded holes, precision bores, mating surfaces, and any area that must remain uncoated. The polyimide film withstands the high temperatures of these processes while the silicone adhesive holds the disc in place and releases cleanly afterward.

Will the silicone adhesive leave residue after removal?

No. The 1.5 mil silicone adhesive is formulated for clean removal after high-temperature processing. Unlike acrylic adhesive tapes that can leave residue or bond permanently at elevated temperatures, silicone adhesive maintains its release properties through the full temperature range, leaving the masked surface clean and residue-free.

Are these a direct replacement for Hisco polyimide masking dots?

Yes. MTE Solutions polyimide masking dots are a direct functional alternative to Hisco polyimide masking dots and Kapton tape masking discs, using the same polyimide film construction and silicone adhesive system. Custom sizes and shapes are available on request if you need a specific diameter not listed.
