Frequently Asked Questions

Why is SAC305 the most common lead-free alloy for wave soldering?
SAC305 (96.5Sn/3.0Ag/0.5Cu) offers the best balance of mechanical strength, thermal fatigue resistance, and wetting performance among lead-free wave solder alloys. The 3% silver content improves joint reliability under thermal cycling, making it the industry standard for high-reliability lead-free wave solder applications.

What does "very low oxide content" mean and why does it matter?
Low oxide content means less dross formation in your wave solder pot, which directly reduces material waste and pot maintenance frequency. Indium's extrusion process and high-purity tin sourcing minimize surface oxidation, resulting in cleaner solder joints and lower operating costs over time.

How many bars are in a 25 lb box and how long will it last?
Each box contains 18 triangular bars totaling 25 lbs. Consumption rate depends on your wave solder machine size, throughput, and dross management practices. A typical selective solder or small wave machine may consume 1–3 boxes per month; high-volume lines may use significantly more.

Is this bar solder compatible with my existing wave solder flux?
Yes. SAC305 bar solder is compatible with all standard lead-free wave solder fluxes, including no-clean, water-wash, and VOC-free formulations. Ensure your flux is qualified for lead-free (Pb-free) processes and that your wave solder pot temperature is set appropriately for SAC305 (typically 255–265°C bath temperature).
