Adhesive Storage and Shelf Life Conditions for Permabond Adhesives

Jun 30, 2025

Quick Answer: Permabond adhesive shelf life depends on chemistry and storage conditions. Cyanoacrylates and one-part epoxies require refrigeration at 2–7°C (35–45°F); anaerobics, two-part epoxies, structural acrylics, and UV curables store at 5–25°C (41–77°F); MS polymers at 10–25°C (50–77°F); and polyurethanes at 15–25°C (59–77°F) stored inverted. Always store in the original unopened container and bring refrigerated products to ambient temperature before opening.

Proper Adhesive Storage Means Greater Profits

Over the lifetime of an application, you can significantly reduce your adhesive waste by paying close attention to the adhesive storage conditions recommended by Permabond. Because of the various chemistries involved in the adhesives that Permabond manufactures, specific storage condition recommendations apply by product type.

Review these recommendations prior to selecting an adhesive for your application, and follow them whenever possible. The shelf life of each Permabond adhesive is based on controlled storage conditions — if an adhesive has not been stored per guidelines, reliable performance data cannot be guaranteed. Extreme temperatures, light exposure, and humidity can all degrade adhesive properties before the stated shelf life expires.

Adhesive Shelf Life

A product's shelf life is the length of time it can be stored under specified conditions without significant changes to its properties. Since these conditions ensure not only a long life but also the best product performance, storing each adhesive under its specified conditions is essential. Improper storage is one of the leading causes of premature adhesive failure — and in many cases voids manufacturer performance guarantees.

Permabond advises storing each adhesive type within the temperatures indicated below. Note that shelf life and storage temperature may vary based on package size — use the following as a guide and always consult the product TDS for specifics.

Permabond Anaerobics

Store Permabond anaerobic adhesives and sealants in the unopened container at 5–25°C (41–77°F). Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of oxygen — keep containers tightly sealed and avoid storing in airtight environments that could initiate premature cure.

Permabond Cyanoacrylates

For maximum shelf life, store unopened cyanoacrylate at 2°C (35°F) to 7°C (45°F). Bring unopened products to ambient temperature before opening. Once opened, leave at ambient temperature. Storage below 2°C or above 8°C can adversely affect product properties. Cyanoacrylates are highly moisture-sensitive — always reseal immediately after use.

Permabond ET Two-Part Epoxy

Store Permabond two-part epoxies at 5–25°C (41–77°F) in their original unopened package. Keep Part A and Part B separated until ready to mix — premature mixing initiates cure and renders the product unusable.

Permabond ES One-Part Epoxy

Store Permabond one-part epoxies at 2°C – 7°C (35°F – 45°F) in their original unopened package. One-part epoxies are heat-cure systems — refrigeration prevents premature advancement of the resin system and preserves full cure performance.

Permabond MS Polymers

Store Permabond MS polymers in the original unopened container between 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F). MS polymers are moisture-cure systems — keep containers sealed and away from humidity until ready for use.

Permabond PT Two-Part Polyurethane

Store Permabond polyurethane adhesives in the original unopened container between 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). Store cartridges inverted to prevent separation and ensure consistent mix ratio at dispense.

Permabond Structural Acrylics

Store Permabond structural acrylic adhesives in the original unopened container between 5–25°C (41–77°F). Certain products may be stored at 2°C – 7°C (35°F – 45°F) to extend shelf life — consult the individual product TDS for confirmation.

Permabond UV Curable Adhesives

Store Permabond UV curable adhesives in the original unopened container between 5–25°C (41–77°F). Protect from all UV and visible light sources — even ambient fluorescent lighting can initiate cure in UV-sensitive formulations. Use opaque or amber containers and store in a dark cabinet.
